Our Approach to CTE Treatment

CTE is not curable but can be managed with treatment options and certain lifestyle changes.

One promising treatment of CTE is TMS, transcranial magnetic stimulation. This revolutionary therapy is a procedure in which magnets are placed against a patient’s head to emit magnetic pulses. These pulses direct energy into specific parts of the brain and stimulant brain cells. When brain cells receive this stimulation, they are more likely to form neural pathways which keep the brain functioning.

Along with TMS, your CTE physician may recommend exercise, adequate sleep, and counseling, among other things. For a custom CTE treatment for you or a loved one, contact Restorative Brain Clinic.

What is CTE?

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) usually develops in the decades after frequent or multiple brain traumas. It is the degeneration of brain tissue and buildup of tau proteins. These protein build-ups form clumps and damage or kill healthy brain cells.

CTE can cause Dementia-like symptoms including confusion, lack of coordination, impaired sight and hearing, poor reflexes, and speech and language issues.

There is not currently a test to diagnose CTE. However, you may have CTE if you have a known history of head injuries, whether categorized as concussions or not. It’s best to talk to your doctor about past head trauma and conditions of your mental health. The doctors at Restorative Brain Clinic have questions and tools to diagnose possible CTE.

What Causes CTE?

While the causes of CTE are still up for debate, most scientists and doctors believe that CTE is caused by repetitive brain injuries, like those suffered during sports, the military, or other brain trauma. This brain trauma includes concussions, but also subconcussive blows that don’t register as concussions.

Common Symptoms of CTE

The most common symptoms associated with CTE are:

  • Difficulty thinking
  • Impulsive behavior
  • Depression
  • Memory loss
  • Difficulty planning & carrying out tasks
  • Emotional volatility
  • Substance abuse
  • Suicidal thoughts or behavior

If you or a loved one has the symptoms listed above and a history of brain trauma, it might be due to CTE. Schedule an appointment with Restorative Brain Clinic in Kansas City to meet with a doctor and get the help you need.
