Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is characterized by obsessive, uncontrollable actions or thoughts that disrupt one’s day. OCD is one of the top disabilities worldwide and can lead to depression, anger, and desperation. While not life-threatening, it can be chronic and incurable for a large part of the population.
Historically, most treatments for OCD have fallen into meditation, cognitive behavior therapy, and medication. While these treatments may help some patients struggling with OCD, they don’t work for everyone.
Patients need more options for OCD treatment. Enter Brainsway’s Deep TMS (dTMS).
Brainsway’s Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS) System
On August 17, 2018, the FDA announced approval for Brainsway’s Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS) System.
This safe and non-invasive OCD treatment is a therapy during which magnetic fields stimulate the brain’s nerve cells. In a random, 100-patient study, 38 percent of OCD patients positively responded to the Brainsway treatment, compared to 11 percent in the control group. This study was conducted over six weeks and was measured on the OCD Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale, the standard in OCD reporting.
This approval is considered a win for doctors and clinics that specialize in OCD because it provides additional options for patients not responding to traditional treatments.
